Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza Faces Two-Match Ban and Fine, Ireland’s Little and Campher Penalized
Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza has been handed a significant blow as he faces a two-match ban, ruling him out for the remainder of the T20I series against Ireland. Additionally, he has been fined 50 percent of his match fee and has earned two demerit points. This suspension is a consequence of Raza accumulating four demerit points over a 24-month period.
On the Irish side, Josh Little and Curtis Campher each received one demerit point and fines of 15 percent of their match fees for their involvement in the incident.
The incident, outlined by the ICC in their statement, describes Raza aggressively charging towards Campher and Little while brandishing his bat and disregarding the umpire’s attempt to defuse the situation. Campher was charged with charging towards Raza, sidestepping one of the on-field umpires who tried to intervene. Little, on the other hand, was charged with making physical contact with Raza after the latter complained about obstruction during a run.
Despite contesting the sanction with match referee Andy Pycroft, Raza’s ban was finalized after a formal hearing.
It is noteworthy that Sikandar Raza was the Man of the Match in the thrilling last-ball victory secured by Zimbabwe, showcasing an all-round performance with a three-wicket haul and a top score of 65. However, this achievement is now overshadowed by the disciplinary actions taken against him, leaving Zimbabwe with a crucial absence in the upcoming matches against Ireland.
